Michał Prokopiuk
Head of Hosting Department / Linux Systems Architect
About me
For over 20 years, I have been managing Linux systems, creating and maintaining hosting environments.
I built infrastructure, processes, and teams from scratch, driving both technical and organizational development.
Currently, I lead the hosting department, which I established from the ground up – from concept to deployment, architecture, and integrations with industry partners.
Technical skills
- Systems: Linux (Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, Mint)
- Web servers and HA: Nginx, Apache, PHP, Haproxy, Varnish
- DNS & email: BIND, PowerDNS, Postfix, Dovecot, Spamassasin, Maildrop, Sieve
- Databases: MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL
- Cache & performance: Redis, Memcached, Varnish
- Networking: BGP, iproute2, VLAN, iptables/nftables, traffic filtering, Mikrotik
- Programming: Perl, Bash, PHP, API integrations, configuration management
- User network ~2000 people: designed and built the infrastructure from scratch – ethernet, switching, fiber optics, routers, firewalls, integrated with server systems and hosting services.
- Network software: custom system for managing users, IP allocation, monitoring, and technical support.
Soft skills
- Leadership & mentoring: I lead teams of system administrators, technical support, helpdesk (BOK), and web developers for client projects.
- Process design: I create procedures ensuring repeatability, stability, and high-quality client services.
- Communication: I explain complex technical issues clearly to teams and clients.
- Strategic thinking: I align technical decisions with business goals and client needs.
- Problem solving: I act analytically, diagnosing and removing root causes, not just symptoms.
- DevOps culture: I integrate administration, development, and support teams for smooth deployment processes.
- Managing a large user network: developing procedures, relationships with clients and building administrations, financial support, and ensuring smooth daily operations.
Work philosophy
I believe good infrastructure is the one you don't notice – it just works.
I focus on simplicity, predictability, and automation.
Every configuration decision should be justified, and every process repeatable and transparent.
Selected projects
- Building the hosting department from scratch: team structure, processes, infrastructure, integrations with industry partners.
- HA environment: high-availability cluster deployment for client production systems.
- Service automation system: custom tool integrating account management, DNS, databases, and SSL.
- Partner integrations: API integrations with domain registrars, SSL providers, cloud operators.
- Legacy infrastructure refactoring: migration of hundreds of servers, standardizing environments and processes for support, helpdesk, and developers.
- Building a network for ~2000 users from scratch: created the technical infrastructure (switching, fiber optics, routing), developed organizational procedures and client relations, and wrote custom software to manage the network.
